The kids were at the crib, as I was strapped in with one of them to my back. Ha! The house was starting to appear nice, however there were a few things to be done. The project would require a lot of money effort as well as my favourite brands of furniture to furnish this home. To keep the cost within my means, I took my boys with me to look for gems hidden in estate sales. Our weekly routine was to spend Thursday-Saturday walking through garage and estate sales to purchase a mix of antique and brand new furniture and then I would spend the weekdays painting sanding in the driveway. My passion for furniture restoration started with an appearance similar to this. Even though our home was furnished, I could not stop. There was a spot at the local markets where I would sell my items. Eventually I had more pieces that I knew about and outgrew the area. In my own home, I began hosting open houses, where over 1000 people could come in and purchase any product they wanted from the first floor within a single weekend. My company Growing Days began here. My company was flourishing however my family was also expanding. I was balancing the demands between what it took starting a business as well as a mother too. Growing Days fit perfectly. My daughter Nora became our fourth daughter. My business's direction was fantastic, but I had to take some time off. I decided to slow down and spend some time in my home with my children. This was just the thing I needed. In the course of a few months, the phone began to ring. I started receiving calls from people asking me for assistance with home improvements and interior design. A majority of them walked into my house at my open house for furniture. While I was working I added new clients to my list one by one. However, it didn't take long before I had many clients and operated an extremely successful business of home renovation. There is a good chance that I would have laughed if someone had told me the business was going to be the premise of an upcoming tv program in the DIY Network. As I reflect back, it still makes me giggle.
